home tele-monitoring

In 2007 Salisbury Visiting Nurse Association introduced Telehealth, an in-home health monitoring system that was instantly accepted by patients, Telehealth Home Monitor
their families and doctors. Adult children living at a distance from their parents find it particularly reassuring.

The user-friendly Telehealth in-home monitor checks blood pressure, heart rate, pulse oxygen, weight, blood sugar and temperature. It even prompts the patient to use it at the same time every day, which is important in getting an accurate picture of a patient's well being. The data is reviewed by a nurse on a daily basis and the system alerts SVNA if there is a change in any of the readings.

While nothing takes the place of a face-to-face visit, Telehealth enables SVNA to keep an eye on its patients every day and make an extra visit whenever needed. When Telehealth is part of an overall health plan, it not only contributes to the quality of life, but can actually reduce the need for emergency room visits and hospital stays.
