HOSPICE VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
SALISBURY, CT—Salisbury Visiting Nurse Association will offer a training course for hospice volunteers beginning the week of April 20. Hospice volunteers are an integral part of SVNA's hospice care team, providing companionship and other assistance to terminally ill patients and their caregivers.
"Hospice volunteers always say that they receive much more than they give," said Patricia Tremblay, Salisbury VNAs Executive Director. "It's an opportunity to do something truly meaningful for people going through a very difficult time."
Shelly Maffucci, a registered nurse with Salisbury Visiting Nurse Association, will teach the seven-week hospice volunteer training course. Classes can be scheduled for day or evening to accommodate individual schedules. Once training is complete, hospice volunteers work directly with patients and families. Veterans are especially encouraged to train to work with fellow vets.
For more information or to register for Salisbury VNA's hospice volunteer training, call 860-435-0816.

SALISBURY VNA RECEIVES COMMUNITY FOUNDATION GRANT
SALISBURY, CT—Salisbury Visiting Nurse Association has received a $1,000.00 grant from the Northwest Connecticut Philanthropy Fund of The Community Foundation of Northwest Connecticut.
The grant was made possible by an anonymous donor for the support of Salisbury VNA's programming in 2010. "We are very grateful to the donor and the foundation for this award, which we will use to benefit residents of our 12-town service area in a very direct way," said Patricia M. Tremblay, Salisbury VNA's Executive Director.
"We believe our commitment to the health and well-being of northwest Connecticut residents includes aiding individuals with particular personal needs that go beyond delivering nursing care," Ms. Tremblay said. "Our first use of this award was the purchase of a very much needed warm winter coat for a Canaan resident. We plan to use the remainder of this grant and other monies to establish an emergency fund to address urgent needs of individuals that cannot be met through the town social service agencies or other organizations."
Salisbury Visiting Nurse Association, founded in 1904, provides in-home nursing and hospice care and therapy to residents of Salisbury, Lakeville, Taconic, Sharon, Falls Village, Canaan, East Canaan, Cornwall, West Cornwall, Cornwall Bridge, Norfolk and Goshen.
